story4all – Heart Languages and Faith by Ears

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

story4all (logo)Last week, we spent some time with Renew Outreach talking about missions in remote areas, literacy, and how mobile is making its way into these very unlikely environments profitably for the Gospel (we’ve got a bit about those folks coming). One of the groups tossed out during one of several conversations was story4all, a podcast-based Christian media group which uses audio streams in the heart/native language of those being preached, spoken to.

A bit more about them from their website:

…We believe deeply that the Message Jesus delivered was not only brought by Him “wearing our skin” (becoming like us and embodying the Message), but it came in a style best understood by His audience, and in a language of the heart.

It has been estimated that only 8% of people living in Israel during Jesus’ time on earth were literate. However, He came and taught everyone (literate Pharisees, etc., as well as the mostly non-literate populace) through the medium of stories. Mark chapter 4 says “He was never without a story when He spoke”. Jesus saw fit to deliver truths to the literate and non-literate alike through the medium of stories. He demonstrated through this that to be effective and to promote recall in the minds of those who hear, most of our communication should be housed in stories.

Ironically, 90% of all Christian ministry today occurs through literate communication styles…

For those of you who’s mobile and ministry pursuits need to start with audio stories (not visual stories), story4all seems like a great place for connection and content. Check out their website and subscribe to their podcast RSS, iTunes). You might find that the heart language they speak, also ressonates with the faith that you aim to share with others.

The Phones Show (and Phones Show Chat)

Monday, December 5th, 2011

We’ve not talked about The Phones Show in sometime, yet this excellent video news/editorial program – and its accompaying audio-only Phones Show Chat – are great for getting some insight about mobile devices and perspectives from a UK-English perspective

Take a look at Episode 154:

One of the best parts about The Phones Show is that its recorded using mobile phones such as the Apple iPhone 4S, Nokia N8, and Samsung i8910 HD as they offer an impressive amount of video and audio quality.

Catch up with this and other episodes of The Phones Show (video) or The Phones Show Chat (audio). You can subscribe to this weekly broadcast via iTunes, or your podcast/RSS reader.

May Videocast

Monday, May 9th, 2011

I know that last month that we talked about doing a monthly podcast, but you wouldn’t believe how hard it can sometimes be to get schedules and technologies to work together. Nevertheless, there’s not a lot that’s impossible with mobile these days, and so I recorded a video cast while in between meetings using Qik and my Nokia N97. Lord willing, this looks good, because we don’t edit while on the go… at least not yet ;)

A Podcast’s Beta – MMF Interview

Monday, February 28th, 2011

This has been sitting on our server (and in Dropbox) since the end of the Mobile Ministry Forum (MMF). Might as well let it out a bit and see if we can actually move forward with that podcast idea ;)

Link to interview (MP3)

This is an interview with Jerry Hertzler, one of the attendees to the Mobile Ministry Forum. He agreed to do this interview (about 12min), as did a few other attendees, as part of fulfilling one of our initiatives to increase the voices of those individuals and organizations whom are working in mobile ministry (#mobmin) related endeavors.

Production provided by Brad Rhodes (MAF Learning Technologies). Brad and I will be collaborating on future podcasts, this was totally a shot-in-the-dark moment, and MMM is quite grateful for Jerry for extending his time for this (and being gracious towards our delay in getting it up). We are using podPress alongside WordPress to manage this content.

Lord willing, this works and there can be a monthly (?) podcast that start here soonish. Please do give your feedback towards the delivery method, content, and what topics/people you’d like to see in the future. There’s a good bit of future to be spoken and written in this space, and we’ll its time to work that beta tag off of something else.

Note: we are quite aware of the sound artifacts present in this recording, it was something we didn’t find out until after the recording. Suffice to say, we’d be using different software (which has already been tested for the first official podcast).

For more information about the project that Jerry is referring to in the interview, see the mLearning Project by Campus Crusade for Christ International.

MMM @ the BBC

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

My best friend keeps telling me that it only takes one phone call, and I think he was (again) spot-on with this.

Last week, MMM was contacted by Jamillah Knowles who is part of the team that does the BBC’s Pods and Blogs. This week’s topic is Religion, Art, Time, and Space and I (Antoine) was interviewed to talk about Mobile Ministry Magazine.

Suffice to say, it was fun being interviewed, and even more to get a bit more word-of-mouth-and-mobile out about the site. MMM comes in at about the 12min mark, but you really don’t want to skip as the two others profiled before MMM have some great approaches of their own.

Here’s the direct link (MP3) to the podcast. Check it out and let me know what you think.

UPDATED: The direct MP3 link now points to the file here at MMM. You’d have to download and listen since we aren’t doing streaming media here (yet?).
