How do churches, mission groups, organizations, communities, parents, and people respond to life when their use of mobile technology intersects with their faith? Here, we not just ask that question, but present the foundations for answering it. Read more about Mobile Ministry Magazine (MMM) and its mission/vision.

Honest Thoughts Before BibleTech

Image: QR Code of Honest Thoughts Before BibleTech

I am writing this post a good 10 days before the date it publishes. Mainly because as BibleTech gets closer, I'm faced with several pieces of prayer and information that leads me to believe that something in me will change after Seattle.

Thing is, I'm not really sure of why I feel this way. Sure, it will be the first time in a long time that I'll get to talk about MMM in about as free a venue as can be. I'll also be engaging with several pastor-teachers, learners, blogger-journalists, and others who have pieces of this Body that are valuable to learn from and understand during these times.

In light of all of that, and the video posted yesterday, it feels a good bit like I (not necessarily MMM, but could be both) am feeling the call to again "move forward." Thing is, the only forward that I am certain of is pressing forth in growing in the knowledge and fear of God. Other than that, I'm a blank canvas canvasing the caverns of this crazy world.

When I touch a mobile device, I think that "there" is the ability to reach every living person (directly or indirectly) with the Gospel. I don't see the limitations of cost, availability, signal strength, or function. I just see "oooh, they can meet Christ if I handle this right." Or, "did you know that your life in Christ can mature, and this little thing can be a catalyst in that?"

And I feel like - 10 days before I even get there; 1 day before I get on a few planes and talk about this reality within our Body - that I'll be utterly convicted, and forced to look at life much differently than I can see now. I really hope that I'm pleasing God's heart for His people to meet Him with this work.

Antoine,
I hope this finds you before you get to BibleTech 2009. I want you to know that you have been an inspiration to me to start a blog with the Church I currently attend.

I read your posts on my Bloglines feed and I get it on my Palm Centro. I have reposted some of your blogs, always giving credit to you.

I ask that you do not shut down the MMM blog for I enjoy it very much. Whatever the change you are referring to, I sincerely hope that the you posting to your blog does not.

Love you brother,
Emil J Lesner

Dear Antoine,

I have discovered this website quite recently and have just added your blog to my netvibes a couple of days ago. I must say, I am relieved to learn that there are fellow christians spending time to do what you are doing.

Working in the education sector, I have seen the difference in how kids learn now compare to how I used to learn. Our kids are facing a very challenging future and we have to educate them for that. Similarly, as Christians brothers and sisters, we should acquaint ourselves with the changes, so that, as the days pass, we could still communicate with future generations and be relevant to their lives.

What worried me most is that, if we don't keep upbeat with them, we may turn out to be hermits to them.

Amendment from above, last sentence should say:

What worried me most is that, if we don't keep upbeat with them, we may turn out to be hermits to them and won't be able to communicate/ share our experience in God with them.

Thank you for your comments Daisy and 4WD; I really appreciate them.

Having written this 10 days ago, I had no clue if even I'd be here today to see this post publish (nothing wrong with me, just inklings in my heart). Nevertheless, MMM has become a foundation for setting up that kind of thinking that should guide how we teach the next generations about mobile/web. We don't do this well at all.

I shutter at the thought that I'll do good or bad in the presentation to come. That I'll say something that will expose what I don't know, and what I do. Or that I'll be presented with the kind of feedback that I've been looking for - someone who has done mobile and faith for a long time, and will offer some sound wisdom that "I" could use to chew on.

At the same time I just don't know. This site and those that contribute here are as much a gift from God as anything else that I've experienced. I'm glad though that this can be a place where people can come, read, be challenged, and begin to grow in the understanding that tech too has to be submitted to the Spirit of God.

What's next though, well, that just kinda will have to be when it comes.
