How do churches, mission groups, organizations, communities, parents, and people respond to life when their use of mobile technology intersects with their faith? Here, we not just ask that question, but present the foundations for answering it. Read more about Mobile Ministry Magazine (MMM) and its mission/vision.

With A Purpose to Serve Him

Image: QR Code of With A Purpose to Serve Him

I was in a conversation with a bro over IM and said this in response to a piece of our conversation talking about mobile devices and trying out new operating systems/devices:

...there are positives and negatives to all platforms, and none are perfect...but you can and should get to a place where the strengths of the platform becomes your strengths to show Christ with it.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement? And for those who are looking for a new gadget, is this something that factors into your decision process?

I think it would benefit from clarification.

If by "showing Christ" you mean being able to show the latest flash evangelistic tool, then I disagree. We don't need any hitech Chick tracts.

But if by "showing Christ" you mean enabling you to walk in harmony with His call to do "whatever" to the glory of God - be that reading blogs, connecting on Facebook or Twitter, writing, studying, or communicating - being fully human and fully His...

... then I'd agree. You then would work to find those tools that would enable you to do and be more.

For me, there's an additional call to simplicity. I feel I am to use the least that provides the most. So that enters in. For example, no netbook, but a 12" laptop like an older Thinkpad X31. No iPhone, but a Treo 650.

Obviously YMMV.

I use a lot of devices, primarily for review purposes, but I ALWAYS keep a Windows Mobile device on hand because of the excellent Laridian PocketBible application and resources. I honestly do make purchase decision based on the capability to have this Bible resource with me at all times. It allows me to read, study, and share the Bible.

@DavidWilson: I mean the latter, but was very deliberate in leaving this question wide open. I agree with ya :)

@palmsolo: nice. Thanks for responding. You've got a slew of devices, and so this aspect of what device needs to do what on your end definitley seems more of a means to an end.
