So, I am sitting down and then get this text message from Jay Noggle. Kool, right? We are all pretty familir with text messaging. And for many folks, its quick and easy in terms of getting out a quick hello or question. But this text message was a lot different. You see, I was logged into Yahoo Messenger and the text was actually taking place as an instant messaging conversation.
How did I do it? Well, first I logged into http://mobile.yahoo.com and registered my phone as a mobile device. Then, via the desktop program for Yahoo Messenger, I set my phone up as a device that would show me as logged in when I am not logged in on the desktop. My device was then confirmed via a text message, and there I was being nice and logged in to Yahoo Messenger via my Treo on the go, or via the desktop program via my (work) computer.
Please note, that in this configuration, standard text messaging rates apply. For Treos there is no standalone Yahoo Messenger client, however, there is one if you have a non-smartphone. See the Mobile Yahoo website for more information on their offerings.
So, why would I do this? Well, to stay in contact with folks of course. And there are some people that I know that do not have my cell phone number, but I am more comfortable with giving them my Yahoo name so that they can email or IM me. Tis a realyl great thing for short converstations. And even comes in handy for the occasional blessing of a hello on a weird day.
[You can IM me via the user name 'twizza3']
- sent from Treo
