The Most Memorial Day
For some, Resurrection Sunday comes twice a year, once at Easter, and again durning Memorial Day. Here is a little something sent in by Adrian that should help us remeber who laid down His life that we all might have freedom to live.
"On what is Easter Sunday for the Orthodox Christian Church, I heard a service this morning broadcast on the BBC, on Radio 4 which came from the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, - which is said to be the oldest monastery in that city. It was turned into a boys prison by the communists but after decades in that role it was reconsecrated in 1988. The service includes a number of accounts stories and some testimony about Christianity in the face of persecution under communism and highlights the regrowth of the open Orthodox Church since communism collapsed -of course Christianity never disappeared - it just went underground for many and remained astonishingly strong.
You can listen to a replay of this service via this link : http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/programmes/sunday_worship/index.shtml
- don't be thrown by the fact that you hear the end of the BBC news bulletin before the service replay starts playing - I think it's an automated broadcast recording & replay service - the service starts in a minute or two. You need the free 'Real Player' on your P.C. to hear it. It's very sobering in places but also very uplifting and well worth a listen.
